What would you do if there is no more social media?
Hey there! Have you ever stopped to think about what life would be like if all our beloved social media platforms suddenly vanished into thin air? Poof! No more Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, or even those trendy Threads. Can you imagine? Trust me, the thought of it scares the socks off me!
I stumbled upon this article the other day, claiming that NASA predicts we might lose internet access by 2025. Cue panic mode. I mean, seriously, how would someone like me survive? As a social media marketer, my entire life revolves around the online world. Our bank accounts, our daily activities - everything is tied to the web. But hey, maybe we can find a way to reverse this crazy situation!
So, if the internet were to go "bust," here's what I'd do:
First things first, I'd pack my bags and head for the countryside. Why stick around in a city with no internet when I could embrace my cottagecore dreams? I'd grab a bunch of books (probably more than I can carry) and immerse myself in the beauty of nature. The internet may be a huge part of our lives, but deep down, I've always fantasized about a rustic life away from screens.
Next on my agenda would be acquiring some kickass hands-on skills. Let's face it, how many of us actually know how to do something useful without our trusty laptops and phones? Back in the day, my parents learned skills like hairdressing, carpentry, and gardening. Me? I can barely relate. Cooking is the one thing I genuinely enjoy, aside from marketing, of course. So, without the internet, I'd totally dive into gardening and maybe even try my hand at massage or beauty therapy. I have a knack for pampering and relieving stress, you know?
Speaking of things we've forgotten, let's not forget the joy of reading! How many of us actually sit down and devour a good book? I recently learned that our reading habits have changed. Since we're so used to reading blogs, we tend to skim through books in the same way. But oh, how I miss those days when I could get completely lost in a new book for hours on end, even if my eyes were begging for mercy. If the internet wave crashes, I'd definitely spend my weekends buried in a stack of books, rediscovering that immersive reading experience.
And here's a crazy idea: let's actually talk to people face-to-face! Now, hold on, I don't mean engaging in conversations with creepy strangers. I've watched enough true crime shows to know that's a big no-no. But imagine summoning the courage to strike up conversations with fellow bus riders, cafe dwellers, or fellow moviegoers (assuming we'd all head back to the cinema without Netflix). We might just have to dust off our social skills and venture out of our cozy homes to prevent ourselves from turning into hermits.
So, there you have it! These are just a few things I'd do in a world without social media. But I'd love to hear your ideas too! Pop me a DM on IG or find me on Threads @christinedrg. Let's share our thoughts and make the most of this social media-free fantasyland.
